The truth about High Fructose Corn Syrup April 12, 2011

The truth about high fructose corn syrup is honestly pretty scary.  Lets start with the basics of corn. Corn was manmade 100’s of years ago by the natives of Mexico, hybriding together two plants to produce a plant called maiz or corn.  Corn has no vitamins or minerals. In the United States we have replaced feeding our livestock such as cows and chickens with corn instead of grass which contains the 32 vitamins  and minerals that these animals need.

 So corn is easy to produce year around, and therefore it became known to use the syrups made from corn, such as glucose and fructose to sweeten our foods. How many foods in your pantry have the ingredient at the top that says High Fructose Corn Syrup? What about in your fridge? In America is it used in our processed foods more than sugar. It is cheaper to make and doesn’t need to be imported. This has raised eyebrows to many people, considering that maybe high fructose corn syrup is responsible for our obesity problem. The question is debatable on all levels.  Foods and Drinks that contain High Fructose Corn Syrups are soda, juice,  sweets, cereal, cereal bars, granola bars,  breads, lunch meats, yogurts, soups, and the list goes on.

If you live in the United States, I believe the only way to avoid this problem, is to make alot of your meals by scratch. Some things are easier then others. Just look at how many of your childresn snacks contain this chemical. Its a start to a healthier life, to be aware of the high amounts of High Fructose Corn Syrup in your diet!
